TEMPLE TERRACE - Revitalization of Temple Terrace's downtown core could be delayed by its redevelopment partners' request to make changes to the site plan. Ram Development Co. and Pinnacle Realty Advisors have requested several changes to the plan, complicating the city's efforts to rezone property in the redevelopment area and move ahead with efforts to transform the blighted area east of 56th Street and south of Bullard Parkway into a mix of retail, residential, office, restaurant and civic/cultural components. ...more

LAKE PLACID — A dog is not always man's best friend — at least according to Leonard L. Jones, who said the noise generated by a kennel located about 400 yards from his home is driving him "insane." "I can close the door, close the vertical blinds, close the curtains and still hear the dogs barking in my bedroom," said Jones. "I have a right to peace and quiet." Jones and neighbor George Coyle both complained about the noise. Vicki and Mike Finch, kennel owners of Dawg House, 69 Dawg House Drive, were issued civil citations three times for exceeding the Highlands County Noise Control Ordinance. The citations were overturned by Magistrate Pamela Karlson, and because the code enforcement office contested those rulings, a rehearing is scheduled for Feb. 28. ...more

LAKE PLACID — Everybody dreams. Many dream of running their own business, while others dream of owning their own home. Sometimes those two wishes conflict. Five years ago, Joanne and Paul Heinsohn moved into Highlands Park Estates and sought peace and quiet. During the past two years, Joanne Heinsohn has called the Highlands County Code Enforcement Office eight to 10 times with complaints that a truck trailer is parked in the neighborhood. In February, that neighbor received a warning citation from the county for parking a truck trailer in a residential area, and was given seven days to comply. ...more

SEBRING — The Community Redevelopment Agency is looking into the future, building a road map for how to best revitalize and redevelop the downtown district. At a workshop Monday, CRA members examined some long-term zoning changes that could limit what is allowed downtown. Through a series of workshops, the CRA plans to develop a concept for downtown development and then specifically work through zoning changes on a site-specific basis. ...more
