Dunedin and North Port will meet Friday afternoon for the start of the best-of-3, Class 5A regional finals and a trip to the Final Four at Sarasota's Ed Smith Stadium on the line. While Sebring High School baseball players are relishing in advancing to the regional finals in Class 4-A for the second consecutive year, the school's soccer players – as well as those in Avon Park and Hardee County – are wondering if they will even have a season next year. There is a desperate need for referees as a result of the Central Florida Ridge Soccer Officials Association announcing that it no longer has the manpower to accommodate both Polk and Highlands counties in the next school year. SEBRING - When the Sebring baseball team reached the state's final four in 2007, it had been more than 40 years since its last appearance. After a 2-0 victory over Bartow on Friday night, the Blue Streaks are one step away from accomplishing the same feat for the second year in a row. SARASOTA – The Sebring girls basketball team came into Booker High School looking for revenge. What they got was a replay. "We couldn't get our shots off or find the holes we needed to score," said Blue Streak junior Shoop. "It was exactly like last time." Booker's defense suffocated Sebring's attack on Tuesday night, holding the Blue Streaks to four points in the third quarter and no points in the final 4:20 of the game as the Tornadoes pulled off a 38-34 victory over the Streaks in the Class 4A regional semifinals. ...more

SEBRING –– After losing to Sarasota Booker in the Class 4A-District 10 championship game, the Sebring girls basketball team hoped to meet up with the Tornadoes in the state playoffs to extract some revenge. Wish granted. The Blue Streaks defeated Haines City 55-48 in last Thursday's regional quarterfinal, while Booker edged Lakeland Kathleen 55-52 to set up tonight's regional semifinal in the Tornadoes gym. ...more
