Let's dispense with three fallacies swirling about the question of abortion coverage in health care reform. Two are being peddled by anti-abortion forces. One, perhaps the most relevant, is being pushed by the pro-choice side. ...more

Nothing gets my blood boiling like reading the letters section in the Tribune. One woman suggested the economy would be in better shape if abortion was illegal. Another compared global warming to a banana conspiracy. So here is a challenge for all the letter-to-the-editor people: Before putting pen to paper or fingers to keyboard, do five minutes of research. If you are pro-choice, read about pro-life. After watching the presidential debate, I feel compelled to express my opinion one more time on the upcoming election. I am not sending this to the other large newspaper in the area because they did not publish my two previous letters because, and this I can only surmise, I disagreed with their liberal views and that of the presidential candidate who they endorse. Enough said about their unbiased reporting! ...more

Regarding "In Tampa, Clinton Bypasses Palin Questions" (front page, Sept. 9): I wanted to applaud Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton for taking the high road during her recent visit to the Tampa area, unlike most prominent Democrats and the majority of the press and print media concerning Governor Sarah Palin. Perhaps it's because she has experienced malicious smear tactics from some of the same critics of Palin. ...more
