GULFPORT - A staff member at the Hamilton Disston exceptional education center has resigned amid an investigation by campus police. Elbert Newton's resignation is effective Wednesday, said Andrea Zahn, spokeswoman for the Pinellas County school system. The 31-year-old supervised an in-school suspension room, but was not considered a teacher, Zahn said. He has worked for the school system since last year. ...more
