Palm Harbor Library exhibiting Blutography

PALM HARBOR - Local photographic artist Tony Blue blends snapshots of reality and perception to create fine works of art that are on display at the Palm Harbor Library Art Alcove.

Blue applies digital enhancements and multiple images to photographs to create his unique art works, said Debbie Phillips, library spokeswoman. "He calls his creative method Blutography," she said.

Blue combines several of his photographic images to create one piece designed to take the viewer on a visual journey.

His interest in photography started early in life and was formalized during a stint as a U.S. Air Force photographer during the Vietnam War era. By the mid-1970s, he completed Los Angeles City College and opened a studio specializing in portraits, fashion and glamour.

He then moved home to Florida in the 1980s to work on his art, which include classic images of the state, from its tropical inhabitants and landscapes to seascapes, beach images and lifestyle images.

The library is displaying some of Blue's work in its Art Alcove through June 30. Blue will discuss his art during a special exhibition showcase from 6 - 7 p.m. Monday, June 8.

After extensive renovation, earlier this year library officials opened their own art gallery to spotlight local artists with revolving exhibitions. The idea is to foster Palm Harbor-area culture since it does not have a fine art museum, Phillips said.

The Art Alcove is open during the library's regular hours, from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday. The library is at 2330 Nebraska Ave.
