The drive to turn Palm Harbor into a city hit a snag a few weeks ago when the Crystal Beach Community Association objected, saying its members want to remain a part of unincorporated Pinellas County. In response, the Palm Harbor Coalition, the group pushing to create a city of Palm Harbor, decided to wait until next year before asking the Legislature to set up an incorporation referendum.
Now, the Ozona Village Improvement Society says OVIS members don't want to be part of a municipality either. The leader of the pro-incorporation Palm Harbor Coalition has said anyone who wants to opt out of the proposed municipality merely has to give the coalition a document offering a legal description of the area that wants to opt out and it will be omitted.
In response, Dennis Green, the OVIS president, says people in Ozona shouldn't have to bear the expense of fending off an unwanted incorporation attempt. We suspect many folks in Crystal Beach agree.
The coalition, if it does move ahead with the incorporation drive, might spare itself some grief by offering to foot the bill for any reasonable step needed to keep the unwilling out of a city of Palm Harbor.
