A 54-year-old Largo man ran his vehicle into a Largo church over the weekend in an attempt to kill himself and be closer to Jesus, Largo police said.
Phillip Glenn Wagner was charged with felony criminal mischief to a church and booked into the Pinellas County Jail, where he was put on suicide watch, Lt. Mike Loux said.
At roughly 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Wagner rammed his vehicle into the Faith United Methodist Church, 403 First Ave. S.W., causing $10,000 in damage, Loux said. After ramming the entrance doors, the vehicle wedged itself inside the church's education center, Largo police said.
