OK, column time. Let's spin the subject wheel. The standard wedges are "aging," "home improvement disasters," "slamming pop culture that I pretend to abhor," "the stinking economy," "how things aren't like they used to be," "Baroque composers dancing in my attic," "kids these days," "Timmy Reemer stalks the Honey Bunches of Oats cereal tour crew," "chipotle" and "immigration." How about, instead "funny summer television replacement series":
'Old People with Long Hair' - A weekly competition to find America's coolest senior.
'The Gymnast' - An abrasive, unconventional former Olympic gymnastics coach solves criminal cases by studying how various suspects perform gymnastics routines.'
'So You Think Your Robot Can Dance' - Teams of geeks build and program "Robot Wars"-type machines to dance different styles drawn at random each week. Pilot episode had a little more drama than expected when a robot's pasodoble gets out of control and nearly takes off a celebrity judge's foot.
'Antique Roadkill' - Teams of amateur forensics enthusiasts try to identify the crusty remains of creatures found on highways.
'The Funny Family' - An animated series with adult themes supposedly for adults but everybody knows it's tough to keep the youngsters from watching cartoons.
'Pickles the Electronic Dog' - There's no story line but if it actually does become a series it will seem like I have some kind of vision into the future.
'The Nanny - Socialist State Edition' - A team of British-sounding matron types pass federal laws requiring citizens to "sit up straight" and "don't slurp your soup."
