PALM HARBOR - Tomorrow night, Palm Harbor Parks and Recreation will give adults who feel lucky a chance to practice their gambling prowess at the annual Las Vegas Night festivities.
About 200 people are expected to attend this traditional night of fun and gaming. The event will take place at 6:30 p.m., Saturday Jan. 24, at the Palm Harbor Activity Center, 1500 16th St., off Nebraska Avenue.
Each year, the event attracts more and more participants, as word spreads about how much fun people have, Erica Lynford, recreation administrative assistant, said
The night's activities include a game room with 10 blackjack areas, roulette and poker and other card games.
Lynford, Cathy Koutsoumbaris, recreation specialist, and about 40 staffers and volunteers, organize the games, which attracts participants from all age groups.
No need to call in the vice squad. The games of chance will be legal under state law because they will be played in the name of charity, with participants using play money, Lynford said.
The activity center will make its money off the admission fee, $12 for Palm Harbor Parks and Recreation member and $15 for others.
Funds raised provide scholarships to needy youngsters wishing to participate in Palm Harbor Recreation's summer camp programs, Lynford said.
The game night will include a buffet, a chance to win prizes, full liquor bar and live entertainment provided by singer Joel Stone. Mixed drinks will be $3 and beer $2.
Since alcohol is served, participants must be at least 21 years of age, Lynford said.
