EAST LAKE - Pinellas Deputies have arrested three people who allegedly committed as many as 15 vehicle burglaries in North Pinellas.
The burglaries occurred between about 11 p.m. Thursday and about 3 a.m. Friday. The break-ins primarily occurred in the Lansbrook and Windmill Points subdivisions, along the McMullen-Booth Road corridor.
Deputies identified the three suspects, who were arrested on counts of vehicle burglary and grand theft, as: Rikki Thome, 37, 3726 Lake St. George Drive, Palm Harbor; Alex Crowley, 18, 40110 U.S. 19 N., Lot 15, Tarpon Springs; and Leala Lasonde, 16, who has the same address as Crowley.
According to deputies, Thome drove a Ford Explorer around the subdivisions as Crowley and Lasonde, Crowley's girlfriend, walked the neighborhoods looking for unlocked vehicles. When they found unlocked doors they stole numerous items from the vehicles, including various electronics, tools and luggage, deputies say.
The suspects would then return to the Explorer and drive to their next location, according to deputies.
After a resident of the area saw suspicious activity and called 911, deputies responded around 3:45 a.m. Friday, conducted a traffic stop on Berwyn Court in Lansbrook and arrested the three suspects.
Since all of the vehicles that were targeted were unlocked, the Sheriff's Office is urging residents to remember to always lock their car doors. This is the best way to protect their vehicles and their contents, deputies say.
