I have been writing to the city government since May 28 in an attempt to do something that would not only beautify the city but make it more enjoyable for people who use the city's sidewalks. I suggested an ordinance to clean up, maintain and protect the sidewalks. This would cost the city virtually nothing, would not be costly to enforce and would give the city some extra income.
This suggestion has been in the hands of city officials for more than four months, but they have taken absolutely no action, positive or negative. I have written polite letters to everyone I know of in city government in an attempt to get some action. I guess they were just too involved – with what I'm not sure.
I received a call from the vice mayor with a promise of some action but none was ever taken. Every time I wrote to the City Clerk's Office, however, I received immediate and courteous responses.
I realize I'm a very old man, so I guess they all figure I'll die some day soon. Then they can consider the matter closed.
