DUNEDIN - Honeymoon Island State Park rangers are preparing for their spookiest time of the year, "Halloween in the Park XI - Terrors Through Time."
Florida Park Service staffers and the Friends of the Island Parks booster group will conjure up the annual festivities in the park as a safe trick or treat alternative, said Karen Malo, park service specialist.
The two-night event takes place this Halloween season 6 - 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24 and 25. During the evening, visitors will be taken on an imaginary tour of the island park from the Age of Dinosaurs until the present.
The event will include a scary trail for older children that will feature a haunted house. It is one of the few times during the year that visitors can see what happens on Honeymoon Island at night. The state park normally closes at sunset.
The night's activities at the park's picnic area will include fortune telling for parents, storytelling by librarians from the Dunedin Public Library and the Palm Harbor Library, games, food and face painting.
Participants should wear costumes and bring insect repellent and a small flashlight, park officials are requesting.
A donation of $10 per carload will be taken at the gate and include 10 free game tickets.
Honeymoon Island State Park is at the western end of Dunedin Causeway, off Alt. 19. For more information call 727-469-5942.
