Major Fiction

Editor:

I was surprised to pick up your Oct. 4 North Pinellas edition and see you had added a fiction section. I refer to the ad on the back page paid for by the Tarpon Spring Republican Club.

Every claim the club made about Democrats or Republicans was either a falsehood or a misleading half-truth.

On energy, Dems would allow offshore oil drilling but they also recognize that we only have 3 percent of the world's oil. Obama wants to invest in alternative energy, creating millions of "green" jobs. McCain has turned a cold shoulder to alternative energy projects.

On taxes, Obama wants to reverse the Bush policy of endless tax breaks for the richest Americans like those greedy Wall Street CEOs. McCain would continue that policy and give more goodies to companies like Exxon Mobil, despite its record profits.

The biggest Republican Club whopper was the claim that the Dems would "resist giving the troops what they need to fight the war on terror." It was Joe Biden, Obama's vice presidential pick, who got protective armor for U.S. troops that was so lacking during the early years of the Iraq occupation.

McCain and Palin would continue to pour lives, treasure and moral prestige down that sinkhole.
