INDIAN ROCKS BEACH - One of Gulf Boulevard's two northbound lanes is expected to remain closed today as crews continue to work on a water main that was hit accidentally by a contractor, Pinellas County officials said.
The 10-inch wastewater main was damaged late Wednesday afternoon by a Verizon construction crew at Gulf Boulevard and 16th Avenue, said V. David Baker, manager of utilities and conservation resources for Pinellas County Utilities.
The main, located 10 feet underground, was relatively new, Baker said. Tanker trucks were dispatched to the break to remove as much of the spilled wastewater as possible, Baker said.
Although one northbound lane is closed, traffic is moving in both directions, Baker said.
Motorists are urged to use caution.
