Like Thanksgiving dinner leftovers, here are some short bites of opinions to chew on.
The PSC Grinch: As if people aren't having a hard enough time making ends meet, the Public Service Commission shocked customers by giving Progress Energy two electric rate hikes totaling almost 25 percent, starting in January. I suppose the PSC intends to leave lumps of coal in the Christmas stockings of customers, too. Somebody somewhere screwed up big time by allowing utilities to charge for pre-construction costs for nuclear plant expansion - even if the plant is never built. I thought those are the risks investors are supposed to take.
Speaking out on spokes: Is it a law that bicyclists must have had lobotomies? That is the only explanation for some of the wacko two-wheelers in West Pasco. I dodged five bicyclists in little more than a mile on my commute home one night.
What a tangled Web we weave: Does it scare anyone else how the Internet can confer "fact" status 2 seconds after some lunatic or greedy sucker posts a rumor to a Web site? Remember the rumor that Apple chief executive Steve Jobs had suffered a heart attack? Apple stock plunged at least 10 percent in a matter of hours before that rumor was debunked. Then we got the death-hoax video of Miley Cyrus of Hannah Montana fame. Don't believe everything you see on the Internet.
Election withdrawal: I'm still going through post-election political junkie withdrawal more than 3 weeks after the Nov. 4 election. How about you? My two-bits worth:
John McCain lost because he sold his soul to the Bush-Karl Rove devil.
The election was over Sept. 15 after the Wall Street meltdown and government bailout.
I'm amused by some voters who made up their minds by 1975 who to vote for in the 2008 presidential election. These people vote for a brand, not a candidate. The straight-party voter lives.
One day we ink-stained wretches at The Suncoast News got an angry caller accusing us of liberal bias. The next day we got an angry caller accusing us of conservative bias.
It was a strange election season indeed. We had Bill Bunting, Mr. Second Amendment and Pasco Republican chief, making a guest appearance on a commie pinko liberal - I think that's the program's description in the GOP TV Guide - PBS talk show "Florida This Week."
Sarah "Sarahcuda" Palin for 2012, anyone? OMG! You betcha!
That's about it for this post-Thanksgiving holiday column. If nothing else, we can all give thanks that 2008 is just about over. Now roll over on the couch in agony, pop some more Tums, and repeat after me, "I can't believe I ate the whole thing!"
