TARPON SPRINGS - Arts and crafters will abound, this weekend and next, as two groups plan arts and craft fairs in the historic downtown.
Both free events take place in the municipal parking lot at Alt. 19 and Tarpon Avenue as well as along Court Street.
This weekend, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 22 and 23, the Hudson-based Crafts and Artisans Society will hold its third Fall Harvest Arts and Crafts Festival.
Area artists and crafters will present their creative holiday gift creations to festival visitors from booths that will line Court Street and the adjacent municipal parking lot at Tarpon and Pinellas avenues.
The following weekend, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 29 and 30, the Tarpon Springs Chamber of Commerce presents the city's traditional Thanksgiving weekend crafts festival at the same downtown locations.
This will be the 18th annual craft festival on Thanksgiving weekend. This is a great time to get bargains for Christmas and enjoy the treasures of Tarpon Springs, said Sue Thomas, Chamber of Commerce president and chief operating officer.
That weekend there will be promotions and specials in shops and restaurants downtown and the famous Sponge Docks, she said.
