TARPON SPRINGS - A motorcycle run through the city will take place Sunday to help the Police Department provide toys for needy youngsters through its Cops and Kids Program.
Last year's run collected toys for more than 300 youngsters enrolled in the Cops and Kids Program, said Judy Staley, city research and information officer.
The Cops and Kid's Christmas toy collection drive started in the early 1990s.
Each year, just before Christmas, needy youngsters get to visit Santa at the police station. They receive a gift that matches as closely as possible their request written in a letter to the North Pole-based jolly fellow.
This year's Santa visit will take place Dec. 20.
Registration for the motorcycle run begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. on Walton Avenue, between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Lime Street. Participants are asked to bring a toy.
The event begins at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 23. It will travel along King Drive, Tarpon Avenue, Riverside Drive, Florida Avenue, Gulf Road to Sunset Beach, Whitcomb and Roosevelt boulevards, through the Sponge Docks to Capt. Jack's Waterfront Grill on Alt. 19, north of the Anclote River Bridge.
Minor traffic delays are expected along the route during the run.
