Tarpon Springs officials have been trying to get the attention of the folks who operate Jack Willie's Tarpon Turtle Grill and Marina. They appear to have succeeded.
Tuesday night, the City Commission told City Attorney James Yacavone to seek whatever legal remedies are needed to resolve complaints from people living around the restaurant on Lake Tarpon. The folks in day-to-day control of the Tarpon Turtle had promised to handle the complaints, mainly involving noise and off-site parking, but hadn't followed through, interim City Manager Mark LeCouris told commissioners.
On Wednesday, Tarpon Turtle owner Don Alvino, told The Suncoast News he didn't know the City Commission had discussed the complaints against the restaurant the night before and was "really sorry" he was not at the meeting. Alvino suggested he had been distracted by his dealings with Dunedin officials over a pair of restaurants he wants to open there. He said he would give the complaints in Tarpon Springs his personal attention.
Alvino called back later to say he had just been on the phone with Tarpon Springs Planning Director Renae Vincent and was seeking to meet Monday with LeCouris and Mayor Beverley Billiris. The mayor said Tuesday she has "strong feelings" about people seemingly ignoring city codes.
This sounds like problems on the way to be resolved. We hope we're not wrong.
