PALM HARBOR, Fla. – Speeding on a couple of neighborhood streets in the Palm Harbor area could soon prove a jarring experience.
The County Commission recently approved placement of three speed humps each along Ohio and Wisconsin avenues, between C.R. 1 and 16th Street.
Motorists have used those streets as a thoroughfare to gain quicker access to 16th Street from Alt 19 and C.R. 1.
Many drivers want to get to 16th Street because it leads to the downtown area along Florida Avenue and other area points of interest. These include Nebraska Avenue, the Greater Palm Harbor Branch YMCA, Palm Harbor Activity Center and Palm Harbor University High School.
In addition to the six speed humps, a four-way stop will be placed at Ohio Avenue and 11th Street and two-way stop at Ohio Avenue and 12th Street. These stop signs are meant to be put a further damper on the speed of traffic.
Florida Avenue, from Alt. 19 east to Omaha Street, already has stop signs at every intersection to slow traffic within the downtown historic area.
