TARPON SPRINGS -- On Thursday, Community Health Centers of Pinellas will break ground on its 8,000-square-foot primary care facility.
The ceremony will take place 11:30 a.m. May 29 at 812 E. Tarpon Ave.
Community Health Centers is a 23-year old nonprofit organization. It provides health care to the needy and other people without health insurance on an ability-to-pay basis.
The primary-care center also serves people with medical insurance who like the center's holistic approach to health.
When completed next spring, the Tarpon Springs facility, constructed on property leased from St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, will include services of a doctor or registered nurse practitioner focusing on both family practice and pediatrics. Patients at the health care facility will be able to purchase medicine at a lower cost at the clinic's pharmacy.
St. Petersburg-based Community Health Centers operates a smaller primary care clinic here adjacent to the Pinellas County Health Department clinic at 301 Disston Ave. It will remain in operation until the larger facility on Tarpon Avenue opens.
