DUNEDIN - Students, family, friends and any loyal Dunedin High baseball fans looking to support the Falcons' during their run to the FHSAA state championships in Sarasota will have the option to ride a school-sponsored bus to Wednesday night's action that begins at 8.
The cash-only offer is $35 per person, which also includes the $8 ticket fee for the game. The Falcons will be taking on Hillsborough's Brandon High with a berth into Thursday night's championship game on the line.
Dunedin High athletic coordinator Marc Allison said that the rides are offered to anyone interested in supporting the team, but that students are given first priority, followed by parents and then others.
Safety precautions require non-students to submit to a brief prior background check before cleared to take part in the trip.
Allison said the school hopes the bus ride will help generate further support for the baseball program during the quest for their first state title in 44 years.
He also said that the option will help lessen the number of students making the southern drive to Sarasota. The arrival home from the night game will more than likely than not be past midnight.
As of right now, Allison said there is one bus scheduled for use that will depart from Dunedin High School at 5 p.m. Another bus would possibly be offered if the number of people interested surpasses 75.
With the amount of support historically generated around the Dunedin baseball program, and especially this year's regional playoffs, Allison said school officials are expecting a strong turnout of supporters Wednesday, and hopefully beyond.
