PALM HARBOR — First Friday is not just a block party anymore.
The monthly street festivals have been rejuvenated into themed events rather than just a big block party, said Robin Husbands-Cauchi, executive director of Old Palm Harbor Main Street.
Main Street's next First Friday, starting 6 p.m. on April 4, will be a fitness expo blending music with fitness demonstrations on Florida Avenue.
Each event will have something for everyone and be family oriented, she said.
"First Friday will be more community oriented and family friendly," she said.
A wide array of vendors, food and drinks for the entire family will still be available.
The plan is to attract a wider variety of people downtown to enjoy the evening and see all the restaurants and businesses.
This coming Friday a disc jockey will set the mood between fitness exhibitions.
Fitness demonstrations include:
6:45 to 7 p.m. a demonstration by members of the Pro Karate Center;
7:20 to 7:40 p.m. a performance by Impact Health and Performance;
8 to 8:20 p.m. a demonstration by the Palm Harbor Wellness Center;
8:30 until 9 p.m. a talk by a representative from the North Pinellas Adventure Boot Camp.
The following month, the theme for First Friday, May 2, will be talent under the stars, featuring performances by various dance studios. Everyone from preschoolers to teenagers and adults will be featured.
The May event will bring a lot of energy downtown, she said.
There will be no Frist Friday in June, because the annual downtown Parrothead Party takes place June 7.
The theme for First Friday, Aug. 1 will be Wet And Wild just in time to cool off from the summer heat, she said.
Events for the rest of the year are still being formulated, she added.
