DUNEDIN -- The public will get a chance to hear the latest information about the city's plans for reconstructing Pinehurst Road and give their comments at a town hall meeting next month.
The community meeting is scheduled for 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, at the Dunedin Community Center.
At the meeting officials will discuss both the plan for rebuilding Pinehurst Road between San Christopher Drive and Michigan Boulevard and how access will be maintained to property in and around the construction area, said Doug Hutchens, public works director.
The plan is to reconstruct the two-lane Pinehurst Road, adding a center left-turn lane for motorists turning off the road onto the campus of Dunedin High School. The redesign will improve traffic flow and reduce roadway congestion, he said.
Bicycle lanes will also be included in a project estimated to cost about $3 million, funded by Penny for Pinellas one-cent sales tax dollars.
This is the first phase of a three-pronged capital transportation improvement plan for this part of the city, Hutchens said.
Pending budgetary approval, intersecting roadways of Michigan Boulevard and San Christopher Drive are also scheduled to be reconstructed over the next few years.
Those projects will include the addition of bicycle lanes in the city's effort to link the Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail to its park system, through a series of bicycle routes along local streets, as part of the Leisure Services Department's master plan.
