PALM HARBOR -- Independent artists will be in the spotlight during the third of Old Palm Harbor Main Street's art exhibitions this year.
The artwork is on display at Harbor Hall.
Robin Husbands-Cauchi, executive director of Old Palm Harbor Main Street, said several independent artists contacted the organization when they heard about its popular art exhibitions.
Since they are not members of any organized art colony, the artists wanted to be able to exhibit their works at Harbor Hall, Husbands-Cauchi said. So she and other Main Street leaders decided to create a juried show with them in mind.
The works of artists from Dunedin, Palm Harbor, Clearwater and Tarpon Springs will be on display until July 3.
In a first, Old Palm Harbor Main Street will present a $200 best of Show Award during the exhibition.
At Harbor Hall, 1190 Georgia Ave., exhibitions are only kept up for one week so as not to conflict with wedding and other ceremonies that take place there and at the adjacent Rheba Sutton White Chapel on weekends. Money from such social events helps defray the operating costs of both buildings.
An exhibition reception will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, June 27. The reception at Harbor Hall, a block south of Florida Avenue, will feature a silent auction that includes one piece from each of the six artists.
Only six artists were chosen to exhibit to ensure there is enough room for each to display about five paintings, Husbands-Cauchi said.
Each artist in the exhibition – Vivian Ruegger, Cathy Morgan, Cynthia Jacobson, Shawn Woods, Robert Lapin and George Holmberg – has a different and unique style, said Cauchi
The participating artists were chosen by Robert Sutherland, a Dunedin artist and musician.
