PALM HARBOR - At first glance, a passerby might think a sign on the little building on 12th Street proclaiming WINGS Empowerment Center is yet another place to eat in the historic downtown district.

The business, started by three women, actually serves up mental enlightenment and sustenance for one's body, mind and spirit.

WINGS stands for World Inspirations, Nurturing, Gratitude and Spirit.

One of the WINGS creators, Becky Vannes, a holistic energy healer, uses a special blend of techniques to balance a person's energy on an inner journey to heal the body, mind and spirit.

Individuals discover their higher self through redirecting positive mental energy. We all generate and replenish the finer energies that promote healing, wisdom and love, she said.

Aroma, sound and crystal therapy, Reiki healing and other specialties are sometimes used. At other times her classes teach stressed-out people how to balance negative and positive energy forces both from the past and present.

The specialty of Roseann Boscarella, another founder, is the astrological arts, giving people direction for their future and alerting them to forces that might affect their lives.

She created an astrological kit that allows people to create their own astrological charts.

The center features many specialty gifts created by metaphysical experts and practitioners.

Sharon Kistler, the third member of the trio, is a holistic life coach and motivational speaker. She leads people on an adventure to discover their true self, personal power and inner peace.

Kistler directs people on how they can experience wholeness and transform themselves into a successful and happier person.

The three women met during several workshop retreats focusing on holistic lifestyles. They decided to bring their various specialties and disciplines under one roof. Their goal was offering a totally holistic approach to living, Vannes said.

The WINGS building, now a vortex of positive energy, was once the Palm Harbor postmaster's residence, said Kistler. A holistic approach to living can also help businesses create a happier and more motivated workplace, she said.

Many business owners are now looking at the various motivational techniques they can provide to reduce worker stress and make people want to be more productive.

It's all about achieving the energy of a higher-self and balance that enables a person to face life's tough issues, Vannes said .

This is a place where everyone comes together to promote inner peace, Kistler said. Downtown Palm Harbor is becoming a good place for the healing arts with several businesses catering to a holistic approach to living, she said.

The WINGS Empowerment Center is open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The women will present a crystal singing bowl concert and enlightenment exhibition, from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at Harbor Hall, 1190 Georgia Ave.

Along with the special sounds of music created in crystal bowls, people can learn about several healing arts, WINGS Empowement Center offerings, meet Reiki masters, Quantum Touch Practitioners, Angel Card Readers and holistic product vendors.

Tickets are $10 a person in advance and $12 at the door.
