He is one of Florida's bards, putting the Sunshine State's moods to poetry.

Later, after he has lived with the poem, the melody emerges, said Pat Barmore.

Barmore will perform his original songs celebrating Florida Friday, June 13, at the monthly Broadway Wine Walk, in downtown Dunedin.

Fresh from a stint at the Florida Folk Festival, held in White Springs over Memorial Day weekend, Clearwater resident Barmore described his brand as "indigenous Florida music ranging in style from folk to country rock."

He has most often been compared to legendary Country singer Johnny Cash, he said. About half of the songs he will perform during the Wine Walk will be his original music.

Barmore accompanies himself on the guitar. Additionally, he will be accompanied by guitarist Jim Terry, who, Barmore said, has been playing the guitar since he was 6.

"There's probably no style of music he hasn't seen or played," Barmore said of Terry.

Barmore himself started playing the instrument when he was 13. He grew up in Florida, where his father was first in the Air Force and later in the space program with Honeywell Aerospace.

He wrote his first song at 21. "That convinced me I could do this."

He formerly had his own band, The Fugitive Kind. The band got its name from Florida's fugitive settlers, Barmore explained. "Typically, Florida was such an inhospitable place that if you could run and get to Florida, no one would come after you."

When not performing, Barmore has his own medical billing business. His music, he explained, "Balances me out from the stress of running my own business."

The Wine Walk will also feature free wine and beer tasting. It will be 5 - 8 p.m., Friday, June 13, on Broadway Street.
