DUNEDIN - Dunedin High School star shortstop Jacob Rogers became one of newest members of the Boston Red Sox organization Friday. The American League team drafted the rights to him in the 29th round of the MLB draft.
The 892nd pick overall, Rogers is listed on the MLB.com draft board as a third baseman. He played primarily at shortstop with Dunedin.
The soon-to-be graduate earned the win in Dunedin's state championship game victory over Stuart South Fork High last month. Rogers closed out the contest by pitching 3 2/3 scoreless innings.
The 6-foot-5 righty has signed to attend and play collegiately at the University of Central Florida.
