TARPON SPRINGS – There will be no reclaimed waste water available for watering lawns in Tarpon Springs until late tonight or even Thursday morning.
The reclaimed water system in the city has been depleted because of drought conditions and heavy customer use, Judy Staley, city information and research officer, announced Wednesday morning.
In order to refill the city's reclaimed water storage tank, service has been turned off for the day, she explained in a press release.
The city hopes to restore service late tonight or Thursday morning.
Because it has no recent significant rainfall, the city is operating under Phase II reclaimed watering restrictions, according to Staley.
As a result residents are asked to voluntarily reduce their use to two days per week, only between 4 p.m. and 10 a.m., when reclaimed water is available.
Limited service shutdowns will be necessary once the reclaimed water tank becomes nearly empty, Staley said.
