PALM HARBOR - Bargain hunters and literary aficionados will be able to acquire some of the latest titles at the lowest prices later this month at the Palm Harbor Library. The items are being sold to accommodate the next phase of the library renovation project.
The special book sale will take place: from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, July 21 - 24; noon to 5 p.m. Friday, July 25; and from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, July 26.
"The Palm Harbor Library has a huge supply of donated materials and no place to keep them during this next phase of our remodeling," said Debbie Phillips, a library spokeswoman.
These donated and surplus items must make way for other items in the library's collection that have to be put in storage during the renovation work, she explained.
The Friends of the Library normally hold two sales of donated items that are the booster group's largest fundraising source, Phillips said. People donate works of fiction, self-help and other nonfiction titles, children's books, encyclopedias, plus magazines, puzzles, audio tapes and videos, she said.
Those sales, however, are held at other times of the year.
During this month's special sale, hardback books that sell for $1.50, during the regular sales, will cost 75 cents. Paperback books that usually sell for 75 cents will cost 25 cents. Other items will be 50 percent off, she said.
The sale will take place behind the book shelves in the reference section of the library, 2330 Nebraska Ave.
When the remodeling effort is completed, in January, the library will have its own book store, rather than having to rely on twice a year book sales, Phillips said.
This is a good time to stock up on books, she said, because the library will be closed from July 28 until Aug. 11 to move the adult collection for the final phase of remodeling.
When the library reopens in August, teens will have a gathering spot and the library will have a conference room and five smaller rooms that can be used for studying or literacy programs.
