TARPON SPRINGS -- Police are looking for anyone who saw a homicide victim being attacked and beaten on Lime Street at Levis Avenue, late last Sunday night.

A police spokesman said the initial event occurred at the intersection between 11:30 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. Sunday, June 29.

Someone driving by the location noticed the victim lying on Lime Street and called authorities, according to police.

Officers and paramedics found the victim motionless and unconscious.

James O. Gill, 47, of 702 Driftwood Lane, was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital, in Tampa, with critical injuries. He died at 6:20 p.m. on Thursday July 3. An autopsy, conducted by the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner, ruled the death a homicide resulting from upper body trauma.

Gill appears to have no known employment information, police said. His next of kin are from Indiana and California.

Police are urging anyone with information to call detective Sgt. Robert Faugno at 727-937-2549.
