PALM HARBOR, Fla. - PALM HARBOR, Fla. - Palm Harbor Fire Rescue received some aid of their own on Thursday.

KrisDenn Enterprises, the franchisee of Firehouse Subs in the Palm Harbor, East Lake and Dunedin areas, along with the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation donated state-of-the-art rescue equipment to the community fire department.

Palm Harbor Fire District Chief Dan Zinge said the equipment, a pair of vehicle jacks, will save vital minutes at crash scenes.

The jack simultaneously stabilizes and lifts vehicles, allowing quicker extraction of crash victims.

The combined value of the two jacks is $6,600.

"We appreciate the tremendous support our restaurant has received from the residents of Palm Harbor," said Bill Schaefer, KrisDenn Enterprises owner. "The need for rescue jacks for the fire department provided us with the privileged opportunity to show our gratitude by supporting our local fire department, which will in turn help save lives and protect the community."

The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation is dedicated to improving the life-saving capabilities of emergency services in communities served by Firehouse Subs. It provides funding, resources and support to public safety organizations.

The foundation was created in 2005 by Robin and Chris Sorensen. The brothers, who are former firefighters, are the co-founders of Firehouse Subs.

The foundation underscores the sandwich shop chain's commitment to public safety, a spokeswoman for the Jacksonville-based company said.

The jacks will be put to use in the many vehicle crashes the department handles, Zinge said. Palm Harbor firefighters are grateful to Firehouse Subs for the gift, he said.
