Denny B's Bait and Tackle, 813-885-9811: Mobbly Bay, at Oldsmar, has been producing some good redfish catches of late. Fish to 22 inches have been taking shrimp and jigs, along with small, live pinfish. Mangroves and bars have been the hot spots. A few trout are being taken nearby, off the site of the old Higgins power plant. Fish to 23 inches have been reported. Trout have been a good bet off the western end of the Courtney Campbell Causeway, with fish between the mainland and the west bridge.
Clearwater Bait and Tackle, 727-669-5455: Anglers have been finding good number of trout fishing between the small bridge on the Clearwater end of the Courtney Campbell Causeway and the mainland. Fish have been running 15 to 17 inches and taking shrimp and D.O.A. shrimp. The pilings on the bridge have been producing lots of sheepshead to 16 inches, some larger. Shrimp and frozen sand fleas have been good baits.
Dunedin Bait and Tackle, 727-736-3474: The fishing has been spotty with the cooler weather. Anglers have been scoring trout to 20 inches fishing shrimp along the northern side of the Dunedin Causeway, and boats working just off the beach at Hurricane Pass have been taking a lot of silver trout to 13 inches. Trout were caught along the Intracoastal Waterway, as well, with fish to 17 inches taking shrimp and jigs between Three Rooker Bar and Dunedin.
Holy Mackerel Tackle, 727-547-9889: Trout fishing has been solid off Crystal Beach. Fish have been running to 20 inches, and a couple to 5 pounds were landed. Live shrimp has been best.
Pier 60, 727-462-6466: Anglers at Clearwater Beach have been scoring well on whiting and silver trout now that the water is chilly. Fish to 13 inches for both species have been caught on live and frozen shrimp. Some trout to 17 inches have been landed on shrimp.
Redington Long Pier, 727-391-9398: The trout bite has been fair, with fish to 16 inches taking shrimp and jigs. A few reds to about 22 inches have been landed on cut sardines and shrimp.
Masters' Bait and Tackle, 727-945-7191: The pier at the Anclote Gulf Park, just south of the Progress Energy power plant, has been turning up a few permit to 17 inches. Fish have been taking yellow and white Doc's Goofy Jigs tipped with shrimp, a pink teaser trailing. The area round the barrels at the power plant's warm-water outfall canal has been giving up trout to 20 inches and some to 25 inches. D.O.A. shrimp and live shrimp have been best.
Salonika's Bait and Tackle, 727-849-6377: The reds have been running 16 to 22 inches in Oyster Creek, south to Salt Springs, in the Port Richey area. Fish are on the bars and close to mangroves, taking shrimp and lures. The flats around the stilt houses north of the Cotee River have been holding trout. Fish from undersized to 18 inches are being caught on live shrimp and jigs.
One Stop Bait and Tackle, 727-842-5610: The barrel line at the Anclote power plant outfall has been the trout spot of late. Fish to 25 inches were taken, and live shrimp were working well. The canal has been producing some pompano and permit, with fish to 17 inches taking jigs tipped with shrimp. Fishing just outside the mouth of the Anclote River has been turning up some reds to 22 inches.
