PALM HARBOR, Fla. - PALM HARBOR, Fla. - It's as close as Palm Harbor will ever get to reliving the post Revolutionary War-era U.S. Constitutional Convention.
The Palm Harbor Coalition, which is seeking to incorporate the area into Pinellas County's 25th city, is seeking volunteers to serve on its feasibility study committee.
The coalition's feasibility study, which was submitted to the county and state, "is not a static thing," said Lesley Klein, one of the coalition's founders
"It's a dynamic process that will have to be changed and updated as issues, thoughts and questions come up," Klein said.
The coalition needs volunteers possessing knowledge in various areas, including planning and budgeting, Klein said.
The committee will seek to improve the current feasibility study on Palm Harbor incorporation and proposed town charter, Klein said.
The coalition, she stressed, wants fewer rules and regulation not more. "We want lower taxes and make sure we get our fair share of tax dollars."
The committee will review and address comments and issues specific to the incorporation of Palm Harbor, which could include other unincorporated portions of North Pinellas, including Ozona, Crystal Beach and even East Lake, Klein said.
Coalition members should be Palm Harbor residents or own a business in the area, Klein said. Would-be members must be able to devote time to attend meetings and speak to interested groups, she said.
Experience in municipal, county or state government is a plus, but not a requirement, she added.
Volunteers should be willing to work for the betterment of the community and not push any other cause , she said.
Homeowners' group, business organizations or other people or organizations with an interest in Palm Harbor can ask to appoint a representative to the committee.
Those interested can send their contact information and brief biography on how their expertise can help the committee to Klein via xxxxxxxxxe-mail. The information can be sent by regular mail to Oak Trail Books, 1219 Florida Ave., Palm Harbor, FL 34683, by Wednesday, Jan. 23.
