Palm Harbor, FL - Palm Harbor, FL - The Suncoast Animal League will hold its second annual "Fix" Pinellas Mutt March and inaugural 5k and one-mile fun runs on Saturday, March 22. The event will take place on Florida Avenue, in the Old Palm Harbor Main Street historical district.
The event was developed to raise funds for the Palm Harbor-based Suncoast Animal League and bring awareness to the overabundance of unwanted cats and dogs. One of the goals of the nonprofit organization is to become a low-cost spay and neuter clinic. Participants are asked to donate money through pledges and sponsorships of the event.
"Last year was our first year in existence and we used the Mutt March as a get-acquainted event," Rick Chaboudy, executive director of The Suncoast Animal League, said.
The inaugural Mutt March, attended by 300 people and 125 dogs, raised $5,000 for the league.
"We expect this year's Mutt March to be much larger and even more successful," Chaboudy said.
Individuals are encouraged to participate by bringing their furry friends for food, fun and exercise. Event sponsors and vendors will display pet products with rescue groups on hand to answer questions.
In addition, a silent auction and $10 pet-ID microchip implantation clinic will round out the list of activities.
The highlight of the morning will be the Mutt March, a one-mile walk for both pets and people. The 5K and one-mile fun runs will take place before the Mutt March. Registration times for the day's events are 7:30 a.m. for the 5K and mile fun runs and 8:30 a.m. for the Mutt March.
Event sponsors include APSCO Specialists, AA Animal Emergency Clinic, Florida Road Race Management and Old Palm Harbor Main Street. Corporate sponsorships are still available.
The Suncoast Animal League is a no-kill animal rescue agency. It takes in abandoned, abused, homeless and unwanted animals. It also provides veterinary treatment, shelter and socialization of animals while they wait to be adopted.
