PALM HARBOR, Fla. - PALM HARBOR, Fla. - This year's Party in the Park will feature a triathlon and rededication of the refurbished H.S. "Pop" Stansell Park.

Palm Harbor Parks and Recreation will kick off its 2008 Party in the Park with the inaugural Party in the Park triathlon at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, May 10.

Stansell Park is off Alt. 19, at Florida Avenue.

The triathlon lineup is a quarter-mile swim, 8-mile bike ride and 3-mile run along the nearby Fred E. Marquis Pinellas Trail.

The remainder of the Party in the Park lineup will begin whenever the run ends, around 9:30 or 10 a.m., said Erica Lynford, Palm Harbor recreation specialist.

There are still a few booths available for food vendors, local restaurants, artists, crafters and other retail or service oriented people who want to participate in Party in the Park, Lynford said.

Space in the park is limited so those interested should reserve a space as soon as they can, she said.

The village party in Stansell Park usually attracts about 2,000 people. Lynford expects the triathlon will boost attendance this year.

K.C. and the Vocal Chords will take the stage from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. with The Blind Rage Band performing 2 - 5 p.m.

Party in the Park will be a good opportunity to see the various improvements to the coastal recreation area the county has made in the last year, Lynford said.

There will be activities for youngsters that include inflatables and slide rides.

Those interested in securing a vendor booth can call Lynford at the Palm Harbor Recreation at 727-771-6000, or contact her via e-mail.
