DUNEDIN, Fla. - DUNEDIN, Fla. - This municipal election season, incumbents Deborah Kynes and Julie Ward Bujalski and political newcomer Tony Scruton are vying for two open seats on the Dunedin City Commission.
Candidates who place first and second in the Tuesday, March 11, vote will win the seats.
This week voters have two chances to listen to what the candidates have to say on important issues facing the city in the coming year.
At 11:30 a.m. this Monday, Feb. 25, the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce members will meet the candidates at the group's quarterly luncheon, at the Dunedin Country Club.
The next day, at 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 26, the public is invited to a candidate forum moderated by the League of Women Voters. The first half hour will be a get-acquainted session, and the actual candidate forum will begin at 7 p.m.
It will take place at Mease Manor, next to Mease Hospital Dunedin, at S.R. 580 near Main Street.
A referendum question on the March 11 ballot will ask voters whether they want to keep choosing city commissioners in the current fashion, with the top vote-getters seated. The possible alternative is having commissioners run for specific seats, elected citywide.
