The effort to turn the Palm Harbor area into a city is moving forward apace. The Palm Harbor Coalition, the group spearheading the incorporation exploration, recently put out a call for volunteers who want a hand shaping a possible Palm Harbor city charter and handling related tasks. More than 40 people came forward.
This Thursday, Feb. 21, the coalition will hold a public meeting on where the incorporation issue stands. Group leaders will answer any questions area residents might have. (See page one of today's edition for a news article on Thursday's public meeting.)
People should consider attending. It would be unfortunate if the Legislature were to authorize an incorporation referendum with a lot of the people who would have to vote on the issue lacking knowledge of what a Palm Harbor municipal government would or wouldn't do for them.
Anyone planning to be in the audience Feb. 23 to debate the pluses and minuses of a Palm Harbor municipal government take note: Coalition leaders say Thursday's meeting will not be a debate forum. A meeting to air both sides of the issue will be held once a proposed city charter has been created and committees are done exploring the financial feasibility of incorporation, leaders say.
