In her response to my Jan. 5 letter, Tarpon Springs Mayor Beverly Billiris once again demonstrated the arrogance of a typical politician.
Despite her protestations that no city funds were expended lobbying on the issue of property tax reform, at this time last year the mayor dispatched the city manager, along with her dog, at taxpayer expense, to Tallahassee to spend roughly three months lobbying the Legislature against property tax reform.
Her claim the City Commission adopted a resolution supporting responsible tax reform is meaningless because it didn't offer positive suggestions. It was merely something the politicians can point to at election time.
Now that Floridians have spoken and the property tax measure passed, let us hope that our mayor strives to make it work in a mature and responsible way.
In regard to my observations about the paving bricks and center islands recently installed in the city, the mayor said they were funded by the Florida Department of Transportation. Unless DOT has a magical tree in its back yard, it receives its money from Florida taxpayers.
That is why in my original letter I asked that in the upcoming election one of the candidates come forth as a fiscal conservative.
