CRYSTAL BEACH, Fla. - CRYSTAL BEACH, Fla. - One of the Crystal Beach Community Association's biggest events of the season, its fundraising silent auction, will spark excitement tonight in this coastal village.
The "Night of Wine and Roses" festivities will take place from 7 - 10 p.m., Feb. 9, at Town Hall, on Crystal Beach Drive.
The event promises to be filled with surprises, good food and music, Bill Gibson, an association board member, said.
The silent auction is the highlight of the night's activities. There will be about $20,000 worth of items up for auction, Gibson said.
The event has been scaled back from a daylong auction because most bidders only came for the night's festivities, he said.
Several vacation packages, restaurant gift certificates, paintings and crafts, gift baskets, wine and other items will be up for bidding, Gibson said. People will be able to bid on their favorites throughout the evening, he said.
The auction will raise funds for operational expenses and upkeep of the association-run Town Hall, Gibson said.
Admission is free and everyone is invited to attend.
This year the association, a group of homeowners who oversee the village, will also raise funds to refurbish its famous long pier, where many come to watch the sunset, Gibson said.
The association also lobbies on issues before the County Commission, such as when Crystal Beach residents wanted commissioners to permit golf carts to be driven on local streets.
Golf carts are now a permitted mode of transportation on local streets.
