DUNEDIN – After a long search, Fort Lauderdale's recreation and special facilities superintendent, Vincent Gizzi, has been named Dunedin's new leisure services director.
Gizzi, a 26-year employee of Fort Lauderdale, will assume the Dunedin position Feb. 25. He will replace Harry Gross, who is now the assistant city manager.
City Manager Robert DiSpirito said Wednesday he chose Gizzi as leisure services director because he has extensive experience in managing recreation programs, park maintenance operations, facilities development and special events.
In Fort Lauderdale Gizzi managed the city's baseball stadium and Major League spring training facility. In that capacity he had negotiated agreements with both the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles.
In addition, Gizzi developed a major parks bond issue and oversaw development of numerous recreation and aquatic facilities, DiSpirito noted.
"Mr. Gizzi has established a track record of forming strategic partnerships with community groups and local schools," the city manager said in a statement announcing the leisure services director appointment.
"We were particularly impressed with his commitment to involving the public in new facility and renovation projects," DiSpirito added.
