Appeal Made For Donations To Send To Troops

NEW PORT RICHEY - Troops overseas will benefit as the Community Service Council of West Pasco appeals for more donations to the Operation Shoebox project.
"The mission is to supply each local service man and woman with a shoebox full of love," Becky Bennett of CSC said in a press release. The drive continues through Sept. 14.
The nonprofit professional community group last year sent 6,000 pounds of items to soldiers. The organization received many letters of gratitude and even a U.S. flag from one of the soldiers.
Items being collected include hygiene products, candy, disposable cameras and games. Some examples are mouthwash, toothbrushes, toothpaste, instant coffee, coffee creamer, powdered drink mixes, tea mixes, beef jerky, canned fruit, small boxes of cereal, mustard, ketchup, granola bars, instant oatmeal, tuna and ham.
Donations of cash and checks for postage are also needed.
Handwritten notes of gratitude to those serving our country are the most priceless gifts, Operation Shoebox representatives say.
