PALM HARBOR - The Youth Triathlon Series of Pinellas County will run its fifth race of the season Sept. 7 at the Greater Palm Harbor Branch YMCA and registration is now open.
The series is directed toward youngsters ages 5 - 15 and touted as the first of its kind to offer an entire season of races ran in one county.
Lengths of the races vary with age for the USA Triathlon-sanctioned event. Awards will be given out afterward.
All YTS races benefit Lance Armstrong's Livestrong Foundation that supports cancer research.
Adults are also encouraged to participate in a super sprint division. Much shorter than a standard triathlon and with the swim done in a pool, sprints are designed as starter events for novice athletes.
It is also USAT sanctioned, but awards will not be handed out. Each adult athlete will receive a finisher's medal and a T-shirt for racing.
The cost for first-time youth racers is $35, and $45 for adult sprinters. Registration and more information can be found online at www.racesaregreat.com. No race day signups will be accepted for this event.
The day's events are scheduled to get under way at 6 a.m. and conclude around 11 a.m.
