He was charged with grand theft.
FDLE started investigating Smith after receiving a complaint from his employer, T.C. Roofing.
T.C. Roofing said Smith, who worked in the Tampa Bay area, converted some of the company's funds for his own use.
"During the investigation, FDLE agents learned that Smith collected money from customers in the Tampa Bay area and deposited the money directly into his personal account," an FDLE release states. "In addition, he allegedly withdrew money from T.C. Roofing's business account for his personal use."
Though Smith's victims paid him for the materials, some had liens placed on their homes for nonpayment for roofing materials, according to the FDLE.
Smith has been released on $10,000 bail.
