CLEARWATER, Fla. - CLEARWATER, Fla. - After 25 years Alexis M. Davis has risen to the top of the Pinellas Sheriff's Office Corrections Bureau.
Davis, who now holds the rank of captain, will be promoted to major and assume command of the Corrections Bureau of Sept. 29. In that position she will oversee the work of 1,240 employees.
Davis, who joined the bureau in May 1982, will replace the current commander, Major Kirk P. Brunner. Brunner will retire on Sept. 28.
"I appreciate the confidence and support of Sheriff Jim Coats and I look forward to working with the professional and dedicated staff under my command at the Pinellas County Jail," Davis said of her appointment in a prepared statement released Tuesday.
Originally from Mount Vernon, Alabama, Davis holds a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of South Alabama.
The Sheriff's Office will hold a promotion ceremony for Davis next Friday, Sept. 28, 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will be at the Pinellas County Jail complex, 14400 49th St. N.
