TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. - TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. - Business Assistance Specialist at the Tarpon Springs Chamber of Commerce, Sue Thomas is taking over temporarily as interim president.
Board members nominated her during their regular board of directors meeting yesterday.
The chamber's Chairman-elect Art Georgiou, who made the announcement shortly after the meeting, said Thomas's knowledge and relationship with the business community made her "a good fit for the temporary position."
Thomas fills the vacancy left by Theajo "TJ" Davis, who was let go on amicable terms two weeks ago. Since then, two members of the board have resigned, but chamber staff, when contacted, would not give their names or reasons for resigning.
Directors are also trying to fill six other openings due to term expiration. They've circulated a notice among partners requesting nominations.
In the meantime, it may take another four months before the board identifies a president, Georgiou said.
Chamber bylaws dictate that before a new president is appointed, the board must first advertise the position, then appoint a hiring committee from among the directors and general membership to interview the applicants and make a selection.
Georgiou will be officially installed chairman of the chamber at its installation dinner, Oct. 5 at the Tarpon Springs Yacht Club.
