OLDSMAR, Fla. - OLDSMAR, Fla. - The city is increasing the area in which liquor legally can be served here.
Municipal authorities are amending the Land Development Code to allow the sale of alcohol beverages in two other mixed use sections of the Community Redevelopment Area.
The affected areas are those zoned Town Center Commercial Neighborhood and Town Center Commercial Residential Zoning District.
These include areas along State Street and St. Petersburg Drive and between Tampa Road and State Street.
Council members on Tuesday voted 5-0 to approve on first reading the ordinance that would allow liquor sales in the two additional zoning designations. The ordinance would become immediately effective if approved on second reading, scheduled for Sept. 19.
The change was prompted by an entrepreneur's plan for a restaurant on the lower floor of the Oldsmar Galleria. The building at 30 State St., the owners of which are planning a grand opening ceremony Sept. 18, will house residential units as well as offices and retail establishments.
Under the current code there are minimum distance requirements between a retailer of alcoholic beverages and residential areas. The amendment will eliminate the distance requirement for Oldsmar Galleria and other retailers in this area.
According to the amended code, "This provision of a minimum distance requirement does not apply with regard to residential uses that are a part of the TCCN and TCCR zoning districts."
