SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. - SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. - Items ranging from handcrafted jewelry to fresh produce and tasty kettle corn will all be available at the Safety Harbor Farmers Market, which opens its 4th season, next month, at John Wilson Park, downtown.

Richard Fernandez, market operator, said starting Nov. 1, the market will be open each Thursday from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Upwards of 25 vendors will fill the park offering a wide variety of specialty items, he said.

The market, which during its nine-year history has been operated in various sites around the city and on other days, has found its home downtown at the gazebo on Thursday mornings.

Farmers Market has been very successful on Thursdays, because many more high quality vendors are available to come into the city on that day, he said.

Fresh foods and produce, flowers, baked goods, gourmet items, plants, food concessionaires and a good mix of vendors have made it successful, he said. High quality, handcrafted, jewelry vendors have also been very successful at this market, he added.

A dog boutique, offering a wide variety of pooch-related items, is another popular vendor that regularly attracts patrons.

Hours of the market were extended to give people who work downtown a chance to take their lunch and visit, he said.

Some weeks the market will also feature live music to entertain the crowds, he said.

Visiting the farmers market each week has become a tradition for many, said Fernandez, who also operates a similar market on Wednesday's in front of Clearwater City Hall.

During the traditional summer hiatus, Clearwater's market went on a once-a-month summer schedule that was very well accepted.

There is a possibility that next summer Safety Harbor's market may also remain in operation once a month and not close in April, he said.

The Safety Harbor Farmers Market is sponsored by the Downtown Business Alliance and the city.
