DUNEDIN, Fla. - DUNEDIN, Fla. - Youngsters attending Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School felt the excitement of seeing a special blessing come to light last Sunday when the school's newly remodeled media center was rededicated.
The church-school educates youngsters in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.
During the summer the media center was transformed from a drab 1980s-style library with rows of bookshelves, into a 21st century facility offering multimedia learning tools, said Sheelagh Wallis, the school's media specialist.
The tall, fixed book shelves were replaced with shorter, moveable shelving. The change provides more flexibility in using the media center's space, Wallis says.
In addition, all the windows were replaced, creating a wall of natural light and modern colorful carpeting was installed.
The redesigned media center will offer students 10 laptop computers, a printer, digital cameras and copy machine.
Morning announcements will be televised from the media center, rather than just heard over the school's public address system.
Not everything in the media center is brand new. A large, refurbished 55-year-old dollhouse, which was donated to the school by Ada Scherer, a parish member, now adorns the top of one of the shelves.
She is thankful for all the volunteers who helped pack up and then reshelve books during the remodeling, Wallis said.
