Calendar Contest-Winner Revealed

SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. - SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. - The Suncoast News has had an exclusive first look at the cover of Safety Harbor's 2008 City Calendar.

A photo of a log house on Sixth Avenue South taken by local photographer Lori Deal beat out 153 other shots to grace the cover of next year's municipal calendar , produced by the city's Finance Department and Public Art Committee.

Most copies of the free calendar, which will be mailed to city utility customers by January, usually are quickly grabbed up by residents and visitors. Photos chosen for the calendar are revealed at that time.

The theme of this year's contest is Art and Architecture of Safety Harbor.

City Clerk Kathy Benson said this year's contest revealed new photo opportunities discovered around the city, such as the log cabin in Deal's winning shot and the picturesque courtyard at the Shoppes at Harbour Point.

Other months will be honors with photographs by Jane Bambace, George Bennett, Gail Widmer, Vic Davis, Marcia Biggs, Jamie Hart, Valerie Wheeler, Rosemary Rubino, Bill Van Nortwick and Bernie Banull.
