In his Sept. 8 letter to the editor Norman Gross, president of Promoting Responsibility in Middle East Reporting, called op-ed page columnist Charley Reese a "hack." For those of us who have been reading Reese since his days with the Orlando Sentinel, this is a misnomer.
Reese does not parrot the major media's manipulative perspective on the Middle East, and this disturbs those who twist the news to their advantage.
Groups like PRIMER and CAMERA, or Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America, are pro-Israeli, and anti-Arab in their reporting. This is where Reese really gets under the skin of Norman Gross and those who would demonize a whole people, the Saudis, while promoting Israel, no matter what it does.
What worries people like Mr. Gross is that some of us might just understand Charley Reese, and the warnings he has in his columns concerning "blowback." This is a CIA term dealing with what happens when America puts its military nose in every other nation's business.
But Reese has also stated: "It's sensible to be afraid of Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda. These people are killers who will murder women and children and not bat an eye."
That hardly sounds like a person who "does not have a clue" about radical Muslims, as Mr. Gross claims.
